Each set of aluminum snowshoes comes with a pair of heel lifts that can be engaged/disengaged with a simple flip of the wrist. An optional feature for your snowshoes that adds 2 inches of platform under your heel to improve comfort, traction and climbing efficiency by reducing the strain on your calf muscles. If you're located in the hills or mountains and you're snowshoeing up long, sustained climbs, bring your lifts. If you're spending most of your time on flatter or rolling terrain, you probably don't need the heel lift.
