Josef Liebhart branched off from a saddler business and started Salewa: (Sa) Saddle (Le) Leather (Wa) Wares. From a backpack and crampons, Salewa gained international recognition as a leader in alpine innovation with its invention of the tubular ice screw, which today is an industry standard. Now, the mountain sport and outdoor brand is present in 30 countries and supplies to over 2,500 shops around the globe.
